So why should I pay any attention to Bill Britt? Isn't he that Amway guy?
Bill Britt was a frustrated white collar City Manager in North Carolina before becoming an Amway Legend. (This was more than 30 years ago). Ever since being involved, Bill has had an uncanny knack for breaking records in the MLM profession. Today's estimates are that Bill has somewhere around 2 million distributors in his MLM team, which is larger than any other person in the world outside of Dexter Yager. Around Bill Britt - there are income predictions galore. For three years starting in 2002, I was an active Amway distributor (then known as Quixtar) at which time I had the privilege of attending several events where Bill Britt was a keynote speaker. Never surrounding any other person have I heard more ridiculous income estimates (upwards of $300 million per year, as some claimed). (As a special note - this is not an income claim, as I have no affiliation whatsoever with Amway - I'm just saying that no one really knows how much he makes - except that it is probably A LOT.)
Bill has one of the most loyal followings that I have ever ran into in the world of business. For example, in 2005 I attended an event called Free Enterprise Day in Long Beach, California where Bill Britt was the keynote speaker. The room roared with applause as he walked on the stage, and when he spoke they were all silent - with tape recorders running and notes flying. Bill Britt was revered as if he were part man, part God - similar to how I imagine the Pharoahs of ancient Egypt being reverenced by their devotees. As we stayed on the edge of our seats for hour after hour, late into the night, Bill Britt hounded on about politics, religion, how bad jobs stink, and I think he mentioned Amway once or twice.
Bill Britt built the foundation for his business in the late 1960's and 1970's through traditional Network Marketing tactics, including home meetings, hotel briefings, Saturday training events, and weekend Seminar excursions.
In addition to his Amway business, Bill Britt also has one of the largest and most profitable personal development companies in the world, called Britt Worldwide. Britt Worldwide distributes seminars, tapes, books, cds and coaching to millions of entrepreneurs in the Amway organization. In fact, there have been estimates that up to 95% of Bill's income comes from his MLM tools business.
Bill Britt belongs to a world of the past - he preaches a godly government, limited government intervention in our personal lives, family values above all else - and oh, I almost forgot that he occasionally mentions Amway.
In the last 15 years, the business building techniques that the Bill Britt organization has been using for 30 years have started to become antiquated, and as a result the growth of Amway suffered in the United States (Bill has somewhere between 30-50% of the entire Amway organization on his team).
When I was in Amway, the team growth strategy seemed to change every week or two - and as a result it was an EXTREME struggle to grow my business - as I did not have the added advantage of being a distributor for 20 or 30 years.
As a result, I quit and designed my own business systems which I find more efficient in building a business today (I spend less time today than I did during those 3 years, and make five times the income). That being said, I have a deep respect for what Bill Britt has done in Amway over the last 30-40 years. The strongest insight I got from learning his Amway systems was this:
